Five people were arrested on suspended license charges over a three-day period last week following traffic stops by Plymouth Police and Marshall County Sheriff's deputies.
The arrests occurred from Wednesday through Friday as officers conducted routine traffic enforcement throughout the area.
On Wednesday, January 7, Officer Wallace with the Plymouth Police Department conducted a traffic stop at 8:30 a.m. in the area of Fifth and West Jefferson Streets. The driver, Damaris Ortiz, 27, of Plymouth, was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended license.
Ortiz was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked on a preliminary charge of driving while suspended with a prior suspension. Bond was set at $500 cash.
Three separate arrests occurred on Thursday, January 8th. At 12:15 a.m., a Marshall County Sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop on two vehicles traveling southbound on Michigan Street near 4B Road. Plymouth Officer Witkowski arrested Theodore A. Wheatbrook of Bremen after discovering he was operating a vehicle with a suspended driver's license. Wheatbrook was transported to the Marshall County Jail.
At 1:30 p.m., Officer Wallace conducted a traffic stop near Advance Auto Parts on North Michigan Street. The driver, Cody Stacy, 30, of Knox, was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended license. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked on a preliminary charge of driving while suspended. Bond was set at $500 cash.
At 3:45 p.m., Corporal Schieber conducted a traffic stop near Oak Drive and Pilgrim Lane for a licensing issue. The driver, Adrianna Kimpel, 24, of Fort Wayne, was arrested and booked at the Marshall County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of driving while suspended.
On Friday, January 9, a vehicle driven by Maria Rodriguez, 70, of Fort Wayne, was stopped for a traffic infraction at U.S. 30 and U.S. 31. She was found to have a suspended license with a prior suspension. Rodriguez was booked at the Marshall County Jail with a bond set at $500 cash.
Charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. All suspects are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
