Illinois State Police Troop 9 will conduct Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols in Lawrence, Richland and five other counties during August and September.
ACE patrols focus on the prevention, detection, and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and the illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs. Officers will be on the lookout for motorists who show signs of impaired driving, operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver's license, as well as improper seat belt and child restraint usage and distracted driving.
According to the latest statistics, alcohol and drug impairment were estimated to be a factor in more than 47% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.
