The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs has allocated nearly $1 million in grants to support organizations that provide vital services to veterans and their families across Illinois.
The grants are part of the Veteran's Cash Grants program, which addresses critical issues facing veterans such as homelessness, post-traumatic stress syndrome treatment, behavioral health treatment and joblessness.
Among the recipients is the Embarras River Basin Agency, Inc based in Greenup. They will get $100,000 which will be used to provide emergency home repairs and housing stabilization services for low-income veterans in their southeastern Illinois rural service area. Many veterans live in older homes and face financial barriers that prevent them from taking care of urgent repair needs such as unsafe electrical systems, roofing issues, mold, substandard flooring and heating and plumbing problems.
