It was a big day Friday for former Rochester Fire Chief Tom Butler, who celebrated his last day with the Rochester Fire Department with a promotion ceremony, which was followed by Butler's retirement open house.
Prior to Friday, Butler held his position for more than 16 years, making him Rochester's longest serving fire chief on record.

Before the start of the ceremony, members from the Fulton County Chamber of Commerce gave a surprise presentation of the Shining Star Award, recognizing Butler's dedication to going above and beyond for the community over the years.
In a previous interview with Butler from earlier this month, Butler said his retirement is bittersweet. Opening a new chapter of life after serving the Rochester Fire Department for over three decades, Butler said there are many things he will be missed.

Passing the reigns on, Butler also swore in his replacement. New Rochester Fire Chief TJ Dubois officially came on duty, after taking the oath of office during Friday's ceremony.
