Overpass construction and limited access upgrades in Hamilton County
Overpass construction is expected to begin this year on U.S. 31 to improve safety and reduce crashes between S.R. 38 and 286th Street. Work is planned as follows and will include intermittent lane closures on U.S. 31 and closures of adjacent county roads:
Starting summer 2025: Overpass construction at 226th Street (upon completion of Englewood Road connection)
Starting late 2025/early 2026: Overpass construction at 266th Street.
Additional work along U.S. 31 is scheduled in 2026, including right-in, right-out conversion (right turns only) at 286th Street, and cul-de-sac construction at 216th, 246th, and 256th streets. Demolition work and drive removal will occur through next year.
Additional details related to schedule will be shared at a later date. More information about U.S. 31 limited access upgrades can be found here.
INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
