“The America 250 Fulton County Committee is super passionate, creative, and committed to putting together a list of events to celebrate the Country’s Birthday in a meaningful and fun way,” said organizers. “We look forward to building a celebration that honors our past while inspiring future generations.”
A local event that is currently planned is the America 250 Photo Contest, which is open to amateurs or professionals. Photos should represent: Patriotic Spirit, Historical Landmarks or Small Town America. Photos must be dropped off at the Rochester Branch of the Fulton County Public Library by Monday, June 1.

Another local event is an America 250 Collaborative Mural.
The Fulton County Public Library is spearheading the creation of a collaborative mural made from 15 canvases. Each canvas covers an area of the country, highlighting historical, architectural or geographic landmarks.
Twelve artists will work on the traveling mural. An open reception for the mural will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, July 10, at the Fulton County Public Library.

One the nationwide 250 events took place over the weekend in Fulton County to celebrate Paul Revere.
On the night of April 18, 1775, Paul Revere rode through Massachusetts to warn that British troops were advancing – guided by a simple but powerful signal: two lanterns shining from Old North Church, meaning “by sea.”
Nearly 250 years later, that moment of courage and communication is remembered through “Two Lights for Tomorrow.”
On Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, community members across Fulton County displayed two lights as a symbol of unity, vigilance and the enduring spirit of liberty that continues to guide our nation.The lights were also displayed at the Fulton County Courthouse.
A large-format version of the poem Paul Revere’s Ride By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow will be displayed inside of the courthouse for the entire month in April in honor of Revere and the 250 celebrations.
A second event will be America’s Block Party, set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, in downtown Rochester. More details are to come.
The next meeting of the committee is 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at The Times Theater.
At this meeting, the committee will hear updates from the team members, prepare event sheets for local events to be added to the state website and continue to plan events. The public is welcome to attend and help out.
