The Olney (Richland County) baseball Tigers picked up a conference win Thursday as they scored early and beat the Indians 8-4 in action at Unit 20 Ballpark in Lawrenceville. The contest was originally set for Olney but moved to Lawrenceville.
The Tigers amassed a 7-0 lead after 5 innings, but the Tribe put together a 4-run inning in the top of the 6th to cut the lead to 7-4 but could get no closer and Olney added an insurance run to cement the win.
Olney scored 8 runs on 7 hits and committed 1 error while the Indians scored their 4 runs on 7 hits with but made 4 errors. The Indian offense was led by Lane Jackson with 3 hits and 3 RBI.
The loss was the second in a row for the Indians, who are now 2-7 on the season. They are scheduled to play Edwards County Friday and jump back into Little Illini Conference (LIC) play Monday at home against Mt.Carmel.
