The Paris Tigers and the Marshall Lady Lions were winners of the team competition Thursday, October 8th at the 2026 Cumberland County Cross Country Invitational held at Lakeland College in Mattoon.
The Tiger boys scored 33 points to win the 3-mile race followed by host Toledo (Cumberland) with 81 and Charleston with 112. The individual race winner was Harrison Hays of Paris in a time of 15:17.9. The Lawrenceville-Red Hill team had only one runner in the boy's race with freshman Dexter Eagleson finishing 102nd in a time of 20:02.4
Marshall scored 73 points to win the 3-mile girls race with Newton second with 80 and Neoga third with 81. Isabella Keller of Effingham (St. Anthony) was the individual winner in a time of 16:08.6. The Lady Indians were led by freshman Addison Thacker in 20:30.5 good for 12th place. Sophomore Lexi Brooke was 19th in 21:23.3 and senior Laurel Buchanon was 39th in 23:29.9.
Next up for the cross-country squad is the Little Illini Conference (LIC) meet Tuesday at Robinson.
