As several popular hunting seasons get underway or continue across the state, disabled Hoosier veterans are reminded of the hunting-related resources available to them.
Those resources include offering discounted hunting and fishing licenses, reduced-cost access to state-owned parks and recreation areas, veteran waterfowl hunting, and free hunting opportunities for catastrophically disabled veterans.
“As an avid conservationist and outdoorsman, I understand the peace that hunting can bring someone. No one deserves that peace more than veterans," said Gov. Braun. "I am proud to do what I can to ensure Hoosier veterans can fully experience the natural beauty and traditions that make Indiana home."
Indiana veterans who have documented service-connected disability are eligible for a discounted Hunting and Fishing DAV license, available for $2.75 for one year or $27.50 for ten years. The license covers small game hunting and fishing, excluding required stamps. To learn more: DVA: Disabled Veteran Discounted Hunting and Fishing License, and Golden Hoosier Passport
The Golden Hoosier Passport offers Disabled Hoosier Veterans and former Prisoners of War unlimited admission for one calendar year to Indiana’s state-owned parks, recreation areas, reservoirs, and forests. Eligible veterans may purchase the annual pass for $25 at DNR locations or online.
Former Prisoners of War will automatically receive their passport once their license plates are issued. To learn more: State Parks: Entrance Fees
Veteran Waterfowl Hunting Days will take place October 17–18 in the North Zone, October 24–25 in the Central Zone, and October 31–November 1 in the South Zone. These designated dates provide expanded hunting opportunities for veterans and active-duty military personnel. To learn more: Fish and Wildlife: Migratory Game Bird Seasons and Regulations
Indiana veterans who are catastrophically disabled may hunt for free, without a license or state stamp, on private or public land where hunting is permitted during the season. The next scheduled dates for this opportunity are November 28–29.
