Tactical Urbanism project on Jefferson Street at Randolph begins Thursday

The City of Plymouth will implement another Tactical Urbanism project on East Jefferson Street beginning on Thursday, May 1^st, with the intention for it to last through the end of June.

The city will be restricting the intersection of Jefferson and Randolph Streets by using delineators to restrict the lane width. This prevents passing on the right. Drivers heading east on Jefferson Street will not be able to turn left onto Randolph Street.

Delineators will also be placed in the westbound lane of Jefferson Street, requiring drivers to widen their turns while attempting to improve pedestrian safety at the crossing.

When school traffic is heavy during the morning commute and after school, left turns off Jefferson Street onto Randolph will be restricted. They will also prohibit left turns from Randolph onto Jefferson. A No Left Turn sign will be posted on the crossing guard light cart. The turning restriction will only be while the crossing guard is present.

Drivers will be able to turn left at Polk St. by the Coffee Lodge and at Liberty Street. Drivers might also try using Baker Street off North Michigan Street or Columbus Drive at Casey's.

This project is TEMPORARY and will allow city officials to study the impact of potential safety improvements that the project may produce.

This project was approved by the Board of Public Works and Safety. Any drivers disregarding the No Left Turn sign could be issued a ticket by the Plymouth Police Department.
