On Saturday, September 5, 2026, Caleb Joel Gowen passed away unexpectedly at the age of 39 in Calais, Maine. He was born in Lawrenceville, Illinois to Douglas R. Gowen and his wife Donna Sue (Griffin) Gowen.
Caleb graduated from Lawrenceville High School in 2005. He was a welder by trade and a mechanic to his core. He could fix just about anything. When Caleb was simply enjoying life, he liked to fish, hunt, hike, and explore his surroundings. He enjoyed sports and especially liked cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Those left to remember and honor Caleb’s life include: his father- Doug Gowen and wife Kathy of Lawrenceville, Illinois; four sisters- Jenna Gowen of Sumner, Illinois, Miranda Scott of Vincennes, Indiana, Kelly Scott of Elkhart, Indiana, and Lacey Scott of Las Vegas, Nevada; several nieces and nephews; maternal grandmother- Doris Griffin; and his beloved dog- Ace.
He was preceded in death by: his mother- Donna Griffin; his grandfathers- Ray “Tubby’ Griffin and Roy Gowen; his paternal grandmother- Wilma Gowen; and his two special dogs- Duke and Titan.
Funeral services are scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home as well. Burial will be in Price Cemetery.
