Putnam County Friends of the NRA Banquet set for March

For the 11th consecutive year, youth shooting and women's shooting sports in Putnam County will be funded as a result of the Friends of the NRA Banquet.

This year's event will be held March 7 at 5 p.m. at the Putnam County Fairgrounds and features live and silent auctions, raffles, a dinner and a "good time," according to event organizer Clint Cooper.

"We fund the youth and women's sports every year. We are one of 26 events in Indiana, and we are one of the top 50 banquets in America and have been for several years. It truly is a good time," Cooper told The Putnam County Post.

Cooper understands there may be some confusion when residents hear National Riffle Association (NRA), but he is quick to point out the Friends of the NRA does nothing when it comes to the legislative arm of the NRA.

"Fifty percent of all proceeds raised will stay in the state they are raised in, and the other 50 percent goes to the backend work that it takes to pre buy the standard package that we get. It funds youth and women's shooting sports in Putnam County, and is not tied to legislation. It provides all the ammo for Putnam County youth shooting sports in 4-H," Cooper admitted.

Expecting a big crowd, Cooper said there is a lot of "neat" merchandise this year up for grabs, including a special made Indiana University football national champions AR-15 from ACME Machine.

"We got together and did a really cool gun. We have a lot of one of one's and one of 26's. Indiana is the number one fundraising state for the Friends of the NRA, and we are able to get a lot of unique items," Cooper said.
