Plymouth Officer makes 2 drunk driving arrests in single shift

Officer Schieber with the Plymouth Police Department arrested two drivers for operating while intoxicated on Saturday, May 23rd, in two separate incidents just hours apart.

The first arrest came at 4 p.m. after a vehicle nearly struck another car and began losing control near the intersection of Pioneer Drive and Lincoln Highway. Officer Schieber conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Tyson Leed, 25, of Plymouth. Signs of impairment were observed, and a subsequent chemical test revealed a blood alcohol level nearly seven times the legal limit. Leed was lodged in the Marshall County Jail and charged with felony operating while intoxicated with a prior, misdemeanor OWI over .15, and OWI endangerment.

Later that same evening, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Officer Schieber conducted a second traffic stop at the intersection of Michigan and Harrison Street after a driver was reported to be impaired and the officer personally witnessed moving violations. The driver, identified as Stephen Ritter, 55, of Kewanna, also showed signs of impairment. A chemical test was administered, and Ritter was lodged at the Marshall County Jail on charges of misdemeanor operating while intoxicated endangering and OWI on a controlled substance.

Both arrests occurred within Marshall County jurisdiction. The Plymouth Police Department has not released additional details at this time.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
