The Vincennes City Council is moving forward in efforts to create more housing opportunities for the downtown area.

Monday, August 24th, they approved by a 4-2 vote an Economic Development Agreement (EDA) for the proposed Firehouse Flats Subdivision.

Developers indicated to the council that the location in the parking lot near Vigo Street between Third and Fourth Streets would be the site of several types of affordable housing units. There have been some concerns from downtown merchants about a lack of parking, but it is anticipated that that obstacle can be overcome.

City leaders emphasized that the city approval is just one of the steps to be taken before the project can move forward, but are pleased that another effort is underway to address the lack of residential and other types of housing in the city itself and Knox County
