Plymouth man revived after overdose at LaPaz McDonald's, arrested on drug charges

Quick action by law enforcement and emergency responders saved the life of a man found unresponsive in a vehicle at a LaPaz fast-food restaurant Thursday evening.

Marshall County Police and LaPaz Fire Department were dispatched to McDonald's at 870 South Michigan Street in LaPaz at approximately 8:22 p.m. on Thursday, February 5th, following reports of an unresponsive male in a vehicle.

Upon arrival, Marshall County Officer Andrew Wozniak located a gray Chevrolet SUV in a parking spot with the driver unresponsive inside. The vehicle was still in drive, and the male showed signs of a possible overdose.

Officers broke a window on the vehicle to gain access and assist the driver. Officer Wozniak administered a dose of Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, which was followed by a second dose from LaPaz Fire personnel.

The subject, identified as Jonathon P. Dalton, 40, of West Madison Street in Plymouth, began to breathe and regained consciousness. He was transported to Bremen Hospital for treatment.

According to Deputy Andrew Wozniak, suspected fentanyl was found hidden in Dalton's property while he was at the hospital.

Once released from medical care, Dalton was transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked in for possession of cocaine or narcotic drug and possession of paraphernalia with a $1,500 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. Those charged are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
