Plymouth announces updates to Monthly Large Item Pick-Up Program

The City of Plymouth has released updated guidelines for its monthly large item pick-up program, adding a crucial new step for residents who wish to utilize the service.

While city residents still have the opportunity to dispose of one large item per month, they must now call Republic Services in advance to guarantee collection.

The city's large item pick-up takes place on the first Monday of every month. To participate, households are permitted to place exactly one large item at the curb no later than 5:00 a.m. on the designated Monday. Officials warn that the one-item limit is strictly enforced; if a resident places multiple items at the curb, the driver will only collect one, and the rest will be left behind.

To ensure their item is placed on the collection route, residents must call Republic Services at 574-842-4719 prior to the pick-up day to notify the company.

The city also provided a detailed list of acceptable items and specific preparation requirements to ensure safe and efficient collection: All items must be shorter than 4 feet in length, and furniture, including couches, recliners, loveseats, tables, and chairs, is accepted. Entertainment centers and outdoor playsets must be broken down. Mattresses and box springs are accepted, but they must be completely wrapped in plastic. Bathroom fixtures, including vanities and toilets, are accepted, provided the toilets are taken apart. BBQ Grills are permitted, but the LP tanks must be removed before pick-up. Lawn equipment, such as push mowers, tillers, and snow blowers, will be collected only if the gas and oil have been completely drained and the equipment is turned upside down. Paint Cans are accepted only if the paint is completely dried out. Residents should leave the lids off and use kitty litter to dry up any remaining liquid.
