A Memorial Day pursuit ended with a crashed suspect vehicle and an Ohio man charged with drug and resisting offenses.
A pursuit that began in Bartholomew County continued into Johnson, Shelby and finally ended in Rush County where stop sticks shredded the tires of the Acura driven by Daniel Romanovich, 31, of Gallaway, Ohio.
Romanovich was initially spotted by law enforcement at a fast-food restaurant parking lot when a deputy was called to the scene on a report of an intoxicated driver. Romanovich fled the parking lot and led law enforcement on a pursuit that reached Shelbyville in the 7 p.m. hour. From there, he reached I-74 down to State Road 244 and on into Rush County with speeds reportedly over 100 mph.
Stop sticks deployed on State Road 3 shredded the vehicle’s tires but the suspect drove on the rims until finally crashing when an Indiana State Police trooper used a PIT maneuver that forced Romanovich off the road.
A baggie with white substance inside and white chunks of it on the car’s floorboard were identified as cocaine.
