The city of Lawrenceville has taken a step toward coming into compliance with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) over violations regarding the operation of its wastewater treatment plant.
The city council, meeting in special session Wednesday, moved to hire the firm of E.J. Water based out of Dieterich, Illinois to take over the role of plant operator. A three-year contract running through the year 2029 was approved at a cost of around $13,100 per month.
Mayor David Courtney told GIANT-FM WAKO News that the company will provide training and technical assistance to remedy the violations noted by the IEPA at the facility. The contractual agreement still must be approved by the IEPA.
The council also voted to accept a proposal of just over $22,500 to construct a 24-foot by 30-foot shelter house at Wishnick Park in southeastern Lawrenceville. The move was made after a recommendation from the council's Parks and Cemetery committee.
