2 newly elected members and one incumbent were formally sworn in Wednesday as the Lawrence Unit #20 Board met and reorganized at Lawrenceville High School.
Taking the oath of office were Mary Seitzinger (District 3) replacing Kenny Waller, Nikki Sapp (District 6) filling a vacancy and Incumbent Reese Ivers (District 7) who was reelected. Waller was recognized by the district for his eight years of service on the board.
Ivers was elected President of the Board, replacing Mike "Doodle" Seitzinger in that position while Ron Waldrop was elected Vice-President and Kyle Gray Secretary.
During business, the board did approve the 2025-26 school calendar and were updated by Superintendent Doug Daugherty on the pending bill in the Illinois Legislature which would ban Native American nicknames and mascots for K-12 schools. That legislation is scheduled for action in committee in the Illinois Senate starting next week.
