The Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) is responsible for enforcing both state and federal regulations on all commercial motor vehicles (CMV). Major tasks include conducting Safety Inspections, New Entrant Safety Audits, and Compliance Reviews to ensure compliance with equipment and hours-of-service regulations.
CVED is also tasked with enforcing Indiana’s size and weight laws and ensuring that commercial carriers are properly registered and paying their fair share of fuel tax dollars. Additionally, they assist in the investigation of commercial vehicle crashes (post-crash inspections) and manage the annual school bus inspection program.

During the week of January 12-16, 2026, ISP CVED participated in the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Human Trafficking Awareness Campaign which resulted in personnel performing the following:
- Seven (7) public speaking engagements
- Six (6) media interviews
- 11 social media posts
- 1,007 wallet cards and brochures provided to CMV drivers
- 718 inspections conducted
From January 1-February 14, 2026, because of their enforcement efforts, ISP CVED accomplished the following:
Additionally, from January 25-28, 2026, CVED personnel assisted their local ISP Districts in the aftermath of the winter storm by investigating 131 vehicle crashes and taking 2,342 calls for service, both of which were above and beyond normal CVED duties.
ISP CVED’s enforcement efforts are part of Governor Braun’s public safety platform to ensure safe environments to travel, work and live for all Hoosiers.
