Call it the right place at the right time for a nurse and a 10-year old girl Tuesday at Raccoon Lake in Parke County.
According to Indiana Conservation officers, officers in the area of Raccoon Lake were training when they received a call about a 10-year-old girl who was in trouble. The girl had been at a beach at Raccoon Lake with her grandfather when she went underwater for several minutes.
After the girl didn't resurface immediately, her grandfather ventured back into the water and was able to locate his granddaughter, bringing her to the beach as she was unresponsive, not breathing and did not have a pulse. Indiana Conservation Officer Max Winchell said a nurse, who happened to be at the beach, began administering aid to the child, who was able to regain consciousness.
Officers and EMS officials checked the girl over, who was alert and was able to answer questions before being airlifted to Riley Children's Hospital.
