Collegiate Update: Conover collects four tackles in Hanover win over Centre College

Hanover College football opened the 2026 season Saturday with a 17-0 shutout win over Centre College.

The Panthers defense limited Centre to 166 yards of total offense.

Shelbyville graduate Axel Conover had four solo tackles and a pass breakup for Hanover.

Also members of the Hanover roster are Triton Central graduate Sam Collier and Shelbyville graduate Jack West.

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

Brayden Wilkins

The Triton Central graduate had four pass receptions for 69 yards and a kickoff return for 13 yards Saturday in Franklin College’s 34-31 win over North Park.

Oliver Gearlds

The Triton Central graduate placed 30^th overall for IU Kokomo at the 2026 Highland Championship hosted by Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.

Gearlds posted a 1-over par round of 73 Saturday at Highland Springs Golf Course and followed that with a 75 on Sunday for a two-day score of 148.

IU Kokomo finished 14^th out of 23 teams.

Jake Garrison

The Shelbyville graduate carded a two-day total of 159 to finish tied for 66^th for Franklin College at the Ted Barclay Invitational at Denison Golf Club in Granville, Ohio.

Garrison shot 6-over-par 77 on Saturday and an 11-over-par 82 Sunday.

Cassie Pike

The Shelbyville graduate made her collegiate debut Sunday for Anderson University women’s soccer in a 9-0 win over Blackburn.

Pike played 15 minutes and had one shot on goal.

Gwyn Williams

The Triton Central graduate had one kill and one service ace Saturday in Defiance College’s 25-13, 25-18, 25-15 win over West Virginia Tech in the Emileigh Jo Cooper Memorial Classic at Rio Grande.

Defiance finished 4-0 at the Ohio event, extended its win streak to five, and improved to 10-5.

On Friday, Defiance defeated Georgetown, 25-9, 25-19, 25-18 then needed four sets to top Rio Grande, 26-28, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19.

The Yellow Jackets closed the event with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 win over Tennessee Wesleyan.
