Indiana State Police detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred on US 31 near County Road 200 North in Miami County.
The preliminary investigation revealed that around 11:00 p.m. Thursday, officers from the Indiana State Police and Miami County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an accident near US 31 and County Road 200 North. They located two individuals with one of the individuals suffering from a gunshot wound. ISP K9 units, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and an ISP helicopter assisted in searching for additional individuals reportedly fleeing into a nearby woods. No individuals were located during the search; however, a firearm was found and secured.
Further investigation determined the gunshot originated from inside the vehicle.
While at the scene of the incident, one of the individuals identified as Jadyn E. Watts, 19, from Niles, Michigan, was found to be in possession of a narcotic drug (Level 6 Felony). Watts was taken into custody and remanded to the Miami County Jail.
The individual with the gunshot wound was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
