Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has issued an executive order to give Lawrence County and other farmers across the state relief from the higher costs of diesel and other fuel.
The order instructs the Department of Revenue and the state police to temporarily allow dyed diesel fuel to be used on state roads and highways for agricultural purposes. Dyed diesel is normally tax-exempt and restricted to off-road uses for tractors and other farm equipment.
Under the order, the state will suspend any penalties for qualifying agricultural use of dyed diesel through the end of 2026.
The governor also declared all 102 Illinois counties as disaster areas for a 30-day period. This will allow the deployment of additional resources by the state in response to the higher diesel and fuel costs.
