A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of U.S. 31 and State Road 10 on Sunday afternoon resulted in one driver being hospitalized and a vehicle catching fire.
According to a news release from Deputy Smith of the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene of the personal injury accident at approximately 5:16 p.m. on Sunday, April 19.
Following an initial investigation, deputies determined that a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Mark Davis of Michigan, was traveling eastbound on State Road 10. Davis reportedly failed to yield the right of way to a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by Ian Mechelsen, which was traveling northbound on U.S. 31, leading to the collision.
Shortly after the impact, the Chevrolet Tahoe caught fire. Fortunately, all occupants inside the Tahoe were able to safely exit the vehicle before the flames spread.
Mechelsen, the driver of the Mitsubishi Outlander, sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. He was treated at the scene and subsequently transported to a local hospital for further medical care.
The Marshall County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by the Argos Police Department and Argos EMS.
