The Shelbyville Central Schools board approved Dr. Julie Ruschhaupt to fill the vacated board seat caused by the resignation of David Finkel.
Ruschhaupt, who works for IU Health, was unable to attend Thursday morning’s special session to confirm her seat on the board.
There were seven applicants for the vacated seat. One dropped out before the interview stage of the process. Six applicants were interviewed Tuesday.
“The board has handled this process according to statute,” said SCS Superintendent Dr. Matt Vance. “They have clearly met the statute requirement of a 30-day window to accept interest from those in the appropriate district, conduct interviews and then at this point in time to appoint someone to the vacated position.”
Finkel’s resignation was accepted on June 17, one day after he was taken into custody by the FBI on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography.
The next SCS board meeting is scheduled for July 15 at 7 p.m.
In other board business Thursday, the board approved moving the monthly board meetings to the third Monday of the month. The change will not take effect until the August meeting now scheduled for Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.
