The Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department is stepping up for one of the city's own this Saturday, hosting a benefit Pancake Breakfast to help Plymouth Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt and his family as he recovers from a life-saving liver transplant.
Marquardt was unexpectedly admitted to IU Health Medical Center in Indianapolis on April 23rd following a medical consultation regarding his need for a liver transplant. For nearly a year, he had been battling non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver — a condition that progressed to the point where doctors determined a full liver transplant was the only option.
After completing the rigorous medical testing required to confirm he was a viable transplant candidate, Marquardt was officially placed on the National Transplant list on May 1st. Just days later, on Wednesday, May 6th, the long-awaited and life-saving transplant surgery was successfully completed.
Now, as Jim begins his road to recovery, members of the Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department are rallying around the Marquardt family to help ease the financial strain that comes with an unexpected and extended medical crisis. The benefit Pancake Breakfast will be held this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Plymouth Fire Station, located at 111 North Center Street.
The event is open to the public, and a free-will donation will be accepted at the door. Every dollar raised will go directly to Jim and his wife, Dar, to help cover the costs of his medical care and recovery. The community is encouraged to come out, enjoy a warm breakfast, and show their support for a dedicated public servant who has given so much to the city of Plymouth.
