Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Greencastle

A Danville woman was struck by a vehicle in Greencastle Tuesday afternoon, according to the Greencastle Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Washington Street and Jackson Street after receiving a call about a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Once on the scene, officers located Maria Stierwalt of Danville in the roadway, where another bystander was tending to her.

Both the victim and the witness told police they were walking across Jackson Street from the east when a vehicle turning south off Washington Street struck Stierwalt.

The driver of the vehicle, a 2023 Chevy Trailblazer, was identified as Tamara Coghill, of Greencastle. She told police she did not see the pedestrian enter the crosswalk when she turned.

Putnam County EMS transported Stierwalt to a hospital; she was reported to be alert and oriented.
