Parke County deputies were dispatched to a Marshall residence for a 911 call where the reporting party advised that her mother had been choked by her mother's husband.
While deputies were arriving they located the male suspect attempting to leave in a vehicle. Deputies quickly took him into custody and then contacted the victim in the residence, who requested medical assistance.
Through the deputies' investigation, it was found that the man, David Charles Smith, 53, battered his wife with multiple objects in the bathroom. It was also found that the Smith got on top of his wife and strangled her until she almost lost consciousness.
Smith was arrested at the scene for domestic battery and strangulation. He was transported to the Parke County Jail where he will remain without bond until he appears before a judge.
