Marshall County EMA to host two national-level emergency training courses in Plymouth this July

The Marshall County Emergency Management Agency has secured two national-level training courses hosted locally this summer, allowing area emergency responders, government officials, and community partners to sharpen their preparedness skills without leaving the county.

The courses, provided through the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium (RDPC), are being offered at no cost to participants and are scheduled for July at two Plymouth locations.

The first course, "Disaster Recovery in Rural Communities" (MGT-415), will be held on Monday, July 21st, at the Purdue Extension of Marshall County office. The training addresses the unique realities that rural communities like Marshall County face in the aftermath of disasters and is highly recommended for elected officials, government staff, public safety leadership, nonprofit organizations, and those involved in economic development.

The second course, "Mass Fatalities Planning and Response for Rural Communities" (AWR-232), will take place on Wednesday, July 30th, at Plymouth Community School Corporation. Offered in partnership with the Marshall County Coroner's Office, the training is designed to better prepare first responders, coroners, public health officials, and others to manage a mass fatality incident in a rural setting. The course was originally scheduled for April 28th, but was rescheduled to July 30th due to a recent federal funding lapse at the Department of Homeland Security.

Both courses run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

EMA Agency Director Jack Garner emphasized the significance of bringing this level of training directly to Marshall County.

"The EMA has made enhancing training opportunities a top priority moving forward," said Garner. "Bringing two national-level courses like these to Marshall County is a huge step in making sure EMA and its community partners are prepared to face all hazards that threaten the life, safety, and property of Marshall County residents."
