The Illinois Petroleum Board reports that there were over 7.1 million barrels of crude oil produced in the year 2023 across the state. Lawrence County ranked 7th among the 45 counties that produce oil. The county produced 337,894 barrels in 2023, but that was down nearly 25,000 from 2022. Overall, oil production from the entire state was below 2022 levels. White County in southeastern Illinois remained the state oil production leader with over 1.9 million barrels produced. Crawford County was 3rd, and neighboring Wabash County 4th.
