It will be like Christmas in July four years in the making for Greencastle Fire Chief Rob Frank and the Greencastle Fire Department on Tuesday, July 7.
The department is set to unveil its new engine to the community during a ceremonial push in event Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Greencastle Fire Department, 107 S. Indiana St.
"There is something special about adding a new engine to our fleet. It’s kind of like Christmas in July. The whole department is buzzing with excitement and ready to get it into service and start taking responses with it. We’ve had a lot of positive comments from the public about the new paint scheme and how sharp it looks. It’s exciting to see our firefighters and the community share in that sense of pride," Frank told The Putnam County Post.
Frank said the new Engine One pumper truck has been several years in the making and there are multiple people and groups who helped make it a reality.
"I want to thank the Sutphen Corporation for their outstanding service and commitment to providing us with quality apparatus. The GFD truck committee who started this project in 2022 and remained committed to it through the many decisions and changes along the way. Mayor Bill Dory for initiating the project and Mayor Lynda Dunbar for seeing it through to completion. Finally the Board of Works, for their approval of the project and understanding the importance of the change orders that we made along the way. It took all of these people to get this new engine here today and we can’t thank them enough," Frank admitted.
And, that is why he wants to celebrate the occasion with the entire Greencastle community.
"It’s always important to involve the community. This isn’t just our engine, it’s theirs too and we want to share this excitement with them. We want them to be just as proud of it as we are. That is why we decided to start having push in ceremonies. It gives the residents of our community an opportunity to see the apparatus up close, meet our firefighters and to take part in a long standing fire service tradition. This new engine is a promise to the people we serve. The Greencastle Fire Department is committed to having quality apparatus, modern equipment, and well trained firefighters who are ready to serve when called," Frank said.
