Last week, the Marshall County Commissioners approved a contract with Amos Borntrager to do additional mowing for the county.
Highway Superintendent Jason Peters explained that the county has an employee working part-time to mow Lincolnway from the east county line to U.S. 30 west of Donaldson, North and South Michigan Road from State Road 110 to Tyler Road, Pioneer Drive from State Road 17 to just north of the Marshall County Jail, Veterans Parkway round-a-bout to Linden Road and all the right-of-way north of 3rd Road on Michigan Road including the medians between the four lanes up to just south of U.S. 6 and also from 1st Road to Tyler Road.
The county hired a mowing company a few years ago to mow the county roads, but the Highway Department has been responsible for the major arteries in the county. That adds up to approximately 35 centerline miles, approximately 70 lane miles of county right-of-way. The width of the right-of-way varies from 6 feet or less to over 20 feet or more.
Borntrager will mow 4 times per year, and the county will pay him a flat annual rate of $4,000, paid in equal installments of $1,000 per mowing round, upon completion of each round.
