One of Circle K’s oldest assets will be demolished to make way for a modern fueling station and convenience store.
On Tuesday at City Hall, the Shelbyville Board of Zoning Appeals approved three development standard variances for the project that will raze the structure at 2905 E. State Road 44 (photo) that was built more than five decades ago.
A new Circle K will then be built with 12 fueling positions for automobiles and a dedicated high-speed diesel canopy with five fueling positions for larger commercial trucks.
Another fueling center and convenience store project also appeared before the board Tuesday. The property just off the Interstate 74 Fairland Road exit is under development for the fifth time after failed attempts in 2006, 2009, 2016 and 2020.

7Eleven/Speedway LLC received a special exception use which will allow for the creation of a Speedway fueling station and convenience store at 3901 N. Michigan Road. The property sits in the Airport Compatibility Overlay and the Race Track Overlay districts which is why Speedway needed permission to create a new fueling center.
The site will include five fueling lanes designed for large truck and commercial vehicles, but there will not be long term or overnight parking on site.
Speedway also received a special exception use to allow for a 100-foot-tall pole sign on the approximately 8-acre site near Indianapolis Horseshoe Casino.
