Indiana State Police Trooper Andrew Baldwin conducted a traffic stop Saturday afternoon on a 2022 Dodge Ram on County Road 100 South near Rollingstone Road. During the stop, Trooper Baldwin identified the driver as William D. Whitman, 61, from Russiaville.
Whitman had active arrest warrants out of Howard County and was taken into custody. Trooper Baldwin utilized his K-9 partner Mack, who alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. Suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia were located. Whitman was remanded to the Howard County Jail.
Further investigation led to the issuance and execution of a search warrant at Whitman's residence. This search resulted in findings of suspected marijuana and additional suspected methamphetamine weighing approximately 70 grams.
The suspected narcotics will be sent to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for an exact determination of the substance.
Whitman faces several preliminary charges including:
- Dealing in Methamphetamine – Level 2 Felony (4 counts)
- Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 3 Felony
- Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 6 Felony
- Possession of Marijuana – B Misdemeanor
- Possession of Paraphernalia – C Misdemeanor
Trooper Baldwin was assisted by other members of the Indiana State Police Peru Post, ISP Drug Enforcement Section, and Howard County Drug Task Force.
