Rochester Mayor Trent Odell made an appeal to the public Monday, saying vandalism and malicious mischief are thwarting progress being made in and around the city
In sharing an update on the extension of Apache Drive south of town, Odell told county commissioners that he learned someone drove around traffic cones at the construction site to do burnouts on the new pavement.
"I'm going to tell the public, 'If you see anything like that happening, videotape it, send it to us,'" he said. "We've got to stop these knuckleheads."
"We're trying to do good things, trying to do nice things for our community – commissioners are as well – and when you see someone disrespecting that, if you can, videotape it, get it to us because we've got to put the hammer down on some of this," he added. "We in Fulton County and Rochester need to pick up our respect level for what we're trying to do in making things nice, so I encourage you to do that."
He noted efforts to improve the parks also have been undermined by regular vandalism.
Those that observe such behavior can contact the Rochester Police Department at 574-223-3313 or Fulton County Sheriff's Office at 574-223-2819.
