The Greencastle Fire Department will do a stairclimb Wednesday morning.
For Greencastle Fire Chief Rob Frank, 9/11 holds special meaning.
As a veteran, Frank remembers the lives lost in the War on Terrorism and as a fire chief, he remembers and honors the 343 firefighters lost in New York.
Frank said he spends time listening to the dispatch audio and reflecting on what fellow firefighters from FDNY were experiencing.
"It helps me to remember them and their sacrifice," Frank told The Putnam County Post.
He said as a veteran, the day reminds him there is still evil that has to be met.
"It reminds me how blessed we are as a country that we have service members who are willing to put their lives on the line to protect our country. It reminds me to pray for the young men and women who voluntarily leave their homes and their families to fight and sometimes pay that ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
It also reminds me that no matter how bad things are we still live in the greatest country in world," Frank said.
The Greencastle Fire Department will do a stairclimb Wednesday morning.
"We climb for about 1/2 hour. Then we will be flying our flag from the tower all day. This has two purposes one: The Warehouse does a 9/11 workout and the run by the firehouse and two: just as a remembrance for 9/11, we leave it up all day," Frank said.
