A driver stopped on U.S. 31 at 14 C Road early Sunday morning was arrested by County Police.
At 1:49 a.m., 37-year-old Matthew D. Fetters of South Bend was stopped by an officer. While speaking with him, it was determined that Fetters had never been issued a driver’s license.
When the Marshall County Deputies attempted to place Fetters in custody, he tried to flee the scene of the traffic stop in the vehicle and later resisted arrest.
Matthew Fetters was ultimately taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked for resisting law enforcement, fleeing from an officer in a vehicle, and operating without a license. He is being held on a $3,000 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed, and there is only probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
