Dining options in downtown Shelbyville are dwindling.
Blue River Bistro & Bar, 39 Public Square, announced in late November it would be shutting down with the intent of finding a new location.
On Wednesday, Pudder’s at 18 Public Square, posted an announcement on Facebook that it will close on Dec. 31.
“After many years of serving exceptional meals to the community, Pudders has made the difficult decision to close its doors permanently. This decision, while filled with mixed emotions, comes as the result of personal reasons as well as a challenging economic climate.”

Pudder’s was originally created by the Phares family that owns and operates the St. Paul Tavern. The restaurant survived the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Val and Alicia Phares then sold the restaurant to Bryan and Kim Rice (photo), who made the announcement Wednesday.
“We are grateful for the support we have received throughout the years, and we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to every guest, staff member, and partner who has been part of our journey. We also want to extend a very heartfelt thank you to our daughter, Madison, who has been a tremendous part in the day-to-day operations of the restaurant. Everyone’s loyalty and dedication have meant the world to us, and we will cherish these memories for years to come.”
