Aiden Smith is a nationally-ranked pitching prospect. However, the senior will leave Shelbyville as one of its best hitters.
In Monday’s 15-11 win over Columbus North at Barnett Field, Smith hit two solo home runs to tie the program record for career home runs and break the career RBI record set by Dalton Jones. Smith, a University of Kentucky recruit, already holds the career hits record for the Golden Bears.
Shelbyville (11-3), ranked No. 10 in Class 3A, led 4-0 then allowed the Bull Dogs six runs in the fourth inning to fall behind. The deficit did not last long after scoring four runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Columbus North (9-9) scored five runs in the fifth to complete its scoring. The Bull Dogs had just four hits in the loss. Only four of their 11 runs were earned.
Brady Bryant had a home run for Shelbyville. Six different Golden Bears had two hits in the win.

Baseball
Morristown 10, Bethesda Christian 5
At Morristown, Michael Ballinger and Braxton Lenning each had two hits and combined to score three runs to improve the Yellow Jackets to 6-6.
A five-run second inning took pressure off Ballinger on the mound. He went the distance, allowing eight hits and two walks while striking out six.
Benaiah Campbell took the loss for Bethesda Christian (8-7).
Boys golf
Triton Central 165, Beech Grove 218
At Sarah Shank Golf Course, Colton Ayres led Triton Central as the medalist with a 39 (+4).
Completing the Tigers’ scorecard were Hayden Beaver (41), Max Crouse (41), Corbin Beaver (44), Jackson Faust (48), and Ryder Trimble (52).
Softball
Whiteland 3, Shelbyville 2, 8 innings
At Whiteland, the Golden Bears scored twice in the top of the seventh to extend the game but a Kyrstin Farr home run in the bottom of the eighth inning ended the game.
Shelbyville (9-10) got consecutive doubles from Addison Wooten and Hailey Maulden to plate the first run. Pinch-runner Maddie Clapp scored off a Whiteland fielding error to tie the game.
Anna Newhouse went the distance for Shelbyville, allowing 11 hits.
Triton Central 10, Knightstown 8
At Knightstown, the Tigers scored a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings to secure their third-straight win.
Elly May had four hits, including a triple, and scored a run. Ashlyn Hittle delivered her team-leading 10th home run of the season. Jalynn Keith had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two.
Madi Peterson pitched a complete game, allowing 11 hits and two walks while striking out three.
Brooke Miller and Mae Hersberger had home runs for the Panthers (7-6).
Triton Central improved to 10-5.
Morristown 14, Greenwood Christian 2
At Greenwood Christian, the host Yellow Jackets trailed 2-1 going to the top of the fourth then exploded for 13 runs to collect a run-rule win.
Sawyer Rogers had four hits, including a home run, scored three times and drove in four runs. Abby Hawk had two doubles and three hits total. She scored twice and had two RBIs.
Rogers earned the win, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out nine to improve Morristown to 6-6.
Kaylee Edgar took the loss for Greenwood Christian (3-3).
Oldenburg Academy 7, Waldron 0
At Oldenburg, Waldron did not get a hit in the shutout loss falling to 5-6 this season.
Haddison Johnson took the loss, pitching four innings, allowing four hits and five runs (all unearned).
Girls tennis
New Palestine 4, Waldron 1
At Waldron, Emerson Lindsey and Jackie Corlett secured Waldron’s only win at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-1, over Alyssa Appleby and Elliot Graham.
The Mohawks’ duo improved to 12-0 this season.
New Palestine won all three singles matches in straight sets, dropping a combined three games.
At No. 2 doubles, Alyssa Beller and Addison Ballard defeated Waldron’s Hannah Rouse and Madeline Walker, 6-2, 6-4.
