The long-awaited son, Douglas, was born on February 7, 1962 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital to Paul Warren Jones and Bertie Eileen Parrott Jones. He was welcomed home to four very excited sisters, Sandi, Cindy, Sherry, and Paula.

Doug was a whopper of a baby (over 9 lbs) and the delight of the household. Growing up, he was an adventurous little boy who was fearless. By the age of four (4) Doug was riding the lease roads behind our house on his little dirt bike, going as fast as he could.

It was nothing for Doug to take apart, put together, and take apart again – everything that was new or fascinating to him. When he was two, we lived in Louisianna – just down the street from our Uncle Deb & Aunt Pat. Doug loved to hang around Uncle Deb and watch him work in his garage. One day, Doug decided he would help Uncle Deb by pouring water in his new lawn mower. I think that was the only time Uncle Deb scolded Doug. Doug was heartbroken because he thought he was really helping. Of course, Uncle Deb followed that with a hug for Doug.

He loved hanging around Daddy while he worked – soaking in everything Daddy was doing. He was a smart little boy and picked things up very quickly.

Because he was always big for his age, he was given responsibility early. Daddy used him in everything he did, which started a bond between them that was never broken.

Doug continued his love for motorcycles and adventure throughout his life.

Doug worked early on with Daddy for J&J Auto Supply. They traveled throughout the area to car dealerships selling clean-up supplies. He made many friends throughout the route – because, lets face it – Doug never met a stranger!

Doug always had a story – and had a memory that was unbelievable. He was fun to to even take a car ride with – because he knew where everyone lived, who had lived there before, what they did for a living, and on and on.

On February 4, 1983, Doug married Rhonda Ferguson and they had three daughters who were Doug’s pride and joy - Brittany, Brooke, and Bria.

In later life, Doug met Betty and they were married on March 13, 2013. They had both been through the ups and downs of life when they found each other, and they were a match made in Heaven. Their days were spent riding the cycle, camping, finding new places to grab a good “sammich” and exploring.

As life went on, Doug and Betty’s family grew – extensively! Together, they have seven (7) Grandsons, seven (7) Granddaughters, and fourteen (14) Great-Grandchildren.

They did their best to attend EVERY football game, volleyball game, baseball game, basketball game and event they could to support them all! Doug was so proud of them.

Doug worked at Gray Wholesale as a driver salesman for a few years before working at Eagleson Automotive as a car detailer. He ended his career at Dumes as a Crane Operator in Vincennes. Doug was a hard worker and put his all into every job he had.

Doug loved his family, his life, and his God. He wasn’t a regular church-goer, but Doug knew God and God knew Doug. He was a praying man who trusted and relied on God throughout his life.

Doug is survived by: his wife- Betty; his daughters – Brittany and Corey Price of Lawrenceville, Brooke and Brad McDaniel of Bridgeport, and Bria Potts of Bridgeport; step-children- Jamie (Gibert) Bice and Mike (Megan) Plummer; siblings – Sandi Brookhart (John), Cindy Havill (Terry), and Paula Jones (Jeff) all of Sumner, and Sherry Ellermann (Rod) of Bridgeport; grandchildren- Aubrey Jean Jones, Hayden Price, Koby Price, Ashlynn Price, Baylee McDaniel, Alex McDaniel, Paizlee McDaniel, Clayton Potts, Corbyn Potts, Cambree Potts, Ryan Bice, Kasey Plummer, Damien Plummer, and Kimberly Douglas; brother and sister-in-Law – Jim and Vicki Hall of Bridgeport; aunts- Donna Jones Scott (Duane) and Bette Jones Poole both of Sumner; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews will all miss Doug.

Doug’s family would love for attendees to honor his love for riding his Harley by wearing Harley shirts or Harley colors.

Services will be held for Doug at Fountain Family Worship Center in Bridgeport on Thursday, July 16, 2026. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow immediately at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Petty Cemetery.
