The Stewardson (Strasburg) Hatchets jumped out to a big lead but then had to hold off a Salukis rally in the top of the 7th inning Thursday to beat Red Hill 4-2 in the semi-finals of the Class 1A Altamont Baseball Regional.
They scored 2 in the bottom of the 2nd and single runs in both the 3rd and 6th to lead 4-0 before the Salukis scored twice in the top of the 7th but could get no more.
The hatchets scored 4 runs on only 3 hits and made no errors while the Salukis were held to 2 runs on just 4 hits and an error. The Salukis got hits from Brayden Carie, Brody Wattles, Avery Arbuckle and Marcus Davis with RBIs from Mitchell Ochs and Keegan Liston, but it was not enough.
The Salukis bow out of the Class 1A tournament series with a 13-11 record.
Stewardson (Strasburg) will face Toledo (Cumberland) Saturday, May 30th at 10 a.m. for the championship. The Pirates beat host Altamont 1-0 in the other semi-final.
