A fleeing suspect died early Thursday morning in a fiery crash in Johnson County.
IMPD detectives report being at East 21st Street and North Emerson when they witnessed a known aggravated assault suspect drive by them.
Officers were requested to make a traffic stop on the suspect’s truck. The suspect led them on a pursuit down I-65 into Johnson County. Officers attempted a maneuver to stop the truck but the suspect escaped that and drove on. Moments later, the suspect vehicle went off the road and struck a concrete culvert. The truck then went airborne before landing in a ditch where it caught fire.
The suspect, Marco Antonio Pena Morales, 30, of Chicago, was killed.
