Shelbyville, Shelby County receive Community Crossings grants in newest round of funding

Area grant recipients include Shelby County ($464,250) and Shelbyville ($1 million).

Shelby County lawmakers said local communities will soon be on the move with more road and bridge projects with the help of recently released state funding.

Funding is available through Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, which can be used for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements and other projects. A total of 223 communities across the state will receive more than $139 million in state matching grants.

"Hoosiers and visitors passing through both need one thing: safe and efficient roads," said State Rep. Jennifer Meltzer (R-Shelbyville). "Through Community Crossings, anyone using our streets can feel more secure about their condition."

Area grant recipients include Shelby County ($464,250) and Shelbyville ($1 million).

"Whether the destination is a mile down the road or three counties over, having well-maintained roads and bridges is of the upmost importance," said State Rep. Robb Greene (R-Shelbyville). "Community Crossings works with local communities to make sure no matter where drivers are headed, they can get there more safely."

"The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program helps cities, towns and counties maintain their infrastructure so Hoosiers and others can travel safely and efficiently," said State Rep. Cory Criswell (Middletown). "After hearing from residents about this need, I'm glad the state can help fund more of these projects that will benefit our community."

To qualify for the competitive grant, smaller municipalities provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities provide a 50 percent match. State law requires 50 percent of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or fewer. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $1.8 billion to improve local roads and bridges.

Edinburgh, $1,483,065.00

Decatur County, $375,008.86
