Some tough economic news for southeastern Illinois and the surrounding region.
First Brands Group LLC announced the closure of its Champion Labs facilities located in Albion in Edwards County. It was one of the largest employers in the area with as many as 1000 people being notified of their termination effective this week.
The company issued a statement Monday expressing regret over the decision and saying that significant efforts were made over the past several months to avoid closing the Albion location, but the decision was made only after all options had been exhausted, including a sale to another buyer, but that fell through.
