A Shelbyville man was taken to IU Methodist hospital following an early morning car-motorcycle accident.
Shelbyville police and medical personnel responded to the accident scene just before 1 a.m. Monday. Dylan Carter, 26, of Shelbyville, was found lying in the street at the intersection of North State Road 9 and Rampart. His 2003 Honda motorcycle was lying there, also.
The police report indicates that initial observation showed Carter had a broken arm and leg and large abrasion on his head. He was in and out of consciousness.
A witness to the incident, Daniel Melton, told police he was driving south on State Road 9 and Carter was on the motorcycle behind him as they approached the intersection. Melton said the other vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Corolla, driven by Lizeth Marin, 31, of Shelbyville, was stopped in the left turn lane of the northbound lanes of State Road 9 waiting to turn westbound.
Melton said he proceeded into the intersection and then he swerved to avoid the Toyota and when looked back he saw the motorcycle in the street.
Marin spoke very little English so the investigating officer called in Deputy Rosales from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department to act as translator. Marin consented to a blood draw as part of the investigation and was taken to MHP Medical Center for that. Marin told police she was northbound on State Road 9 and had a green light when she turned west. She said that is when she saw Carter’s motorcycle and that it struck her car.
Carter was taken to IU Methodist for treatment of injuries.
Marin was not injured.
