The Shelby County YMCA is inviting families from across the community to attend Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The event is free and open to all families, whether or not they are YMCA members.
Healthy Kids Day is a family-friendly event designed to inspire healthy habits and encourage kids and families to stay active, engaged, and connected. The event will feature a variety of hands-on activities and opportunities for families to explore resources that support youth development, healthy living, and overall wellness.
This year’s Shelby County event will include activities both inside and outside of the facility, giving families plenty of opportunities to explore, play, and connect throughout the morning. The event will feature a Touch-A-Truck experience, a bounce house, local vendors, the Healthy Kids Day Dash, and additional activities focused on movement, play, and community connection.
The Healthy Kids Day Dash is designed to be a fun and active experience for children and will be separated by age group. Children ages 3–6 will participate in a quarter-mile run, and a parent or guardian is required to join them. Children ages 7–10 will participate in a half-mile run, with parent or guardian participation optional.
“Healthy Kids Day is a great opportunity for families to come together, have fun, and learn more about the resources available in our community,” said Mackenzie Pickerrell, CEO of the Decatur Shelby County YMCA. “We are excited to welcome families to the Shelby County YMCA for a morning focused on healthy kids, healthy families, and strong communities.”
Healthy Kids Day is part of the YMCA’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families, especially as summer approaches. The event encourages children to keep their minds and bodies active while helping families discover programs and services that can support them throughout the year.
The Shelby County YMCA would like to thank Major Health Partners, a Stronger Kids Champion Sponsor, and Makuta, a Healthy Kids Hero Sponsor, for their support of Healthy Kids Day and their investment in the health and well-being of local children and families.
The event is free and open to the public.
