The Second Judicial Circuit took time in December to recognize Associate Judge Mark Shaner who retired from the bench. His final day was Friday December 15th. Shaner began his judicial career when he was appointed to the bench on March 2nd of 2005 and served 18 years. He was known as an advocate of the Second Circuit's Drug Court program. Second Circuit Chief Judge Melissa Morgan issued a statement praising Shaner for his long service to the Circuit and his outstanding dedication to the administration of justice and congratulated him on his retirement. The Second Circuit does include Lawrence and other surrounding counties in southeastern Illinois.
