The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced that work is continuing on the two bridges replacement project on Illinois Route 1 over the Embarras River overflow north of Lawrenceville.
The $21.5 million project is to be completed under staged construction, with the first stage already underway and anticipated to be finished by early December of 2026. The entire project is scheduled to be concluded in December of 2027.
Advance signs and traffic signals remain in place to direct vehicles over the bridges. IDOT officials say that the result of the project will be improved safety and smoother pavement along Illinois Route 1 for the traveling public.
