Saint Joseph Health System is making a $25 million investment to create a new comprehensive Cancer Center at the Saint Joseph Mishawaka Medical Center, significantly expanding access to advanced cancer care for patients across Michiana. The approximately 25,000 square foot Saint Joseph Mishawaka Medical Center Cancer Center, located within the Saint Joseph Mishawaka Medical Office Building at 611 E. Douglas Road, will consolidate and enhance cancer services in a modern, patient-centered environment. Renovation and construction will begin in fall 2026.
The new Cancer Center will provide comprehensive oncology, as well as hematology services, diagnosing and treating a wide range of cancers and blood disorders. The center also will offer advanced radiation and expanded infusion capabilities, creating a seamless experience for patients receiving cancer care.
Designed to meet the growing needs of the community, the new space will bring together multidisciplinary cancer specialists, advanced treatment technologies and supportive services under one roof. The expanded Cancer Center reflects Saint Joseph Health System's ongoing commitment to delivering highly specialized care while keeping patients close to the support of family, friends and their community.
"This investment represents an exciting new chapter for cancer care in our region," said Chris Karam, president of Saint Joseph Health System. "Through the support of Trinity Health, we are affirming our commitment to the health of our community. By expanding and enhancing our cancer services, we will provide patients and families greater access to advanced treatments, expert specialists and comprehensive care in a setting designed around their needs."
In addition, Ebenezer Kio, MD, a hematology and oncology provider with roots in the community, is set to join the Saint Joseph Medical Group on Sept. 21.
"As we continue to strengthen and expand cancer services across our region, we are pleased to welcome Dr. Kio to our team," said Leah Napolitano, MD, president of Saint Joseph Medical Group. "His expertise in hematology and oncology, paired with his dedication to delivering personalized care, will enhance our ability to provide comprehensive treatment and support for patients and families throughout their cancer journey."
The project also strengthens collaboration between Saint Joseph Health System and Loyola Medicine, enhancing access to nationally recognized expertise and innovative cancer treatments.
"This expansion builds on the strong partnership between Saint Joseph Health System and Loyola Medicine to advance cancer care throughout northern Indiana," said William Small Jr., MD, FACRO, FACR, FASTRO, vice president of oncology for Trinity Health's Illinois/Indiana region and director of the Loyola Medicine Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center. "By deepening collaboration between our organizations, patients will benefit from expanded access to leading oncology expertise, evidence-based treatments, coordinated care and research while remaining close to home."
